The Old Testament records the history and faith of the Israelite people and their belief in the resurrection of the dead.
Psalm 40:10-11
"But you, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again."
Job 19:25-26
"For I know my Redeemer lives, and in the last day I shall rise
out of the earth. And I shall be clothed again with my skin:
and in my flesh I shall see my God."
Daniel 12:2
"And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall
awake: some unto life everlasting, and others unto reproach, to see it always."
Hosea 6:1-3
"He will revive us after two days: on the third day he will raise
us up and we shall live in His sight."
Psalm 29:2-4
"You have brought forth, O Lord, my soul from hell: you have
saved me from them who go down into the pit."
Psalm 15:9-10
"You will not leave my soul in hell: nor will you give your Holy
One to see corruption."
Isaiah 26:19
"But your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise; awake and sing, you who lie in the dust."
Ezekiel 37:1-14
"The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a
valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the
valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"
I said, "Sovereign Lord, you alone know."
Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what
the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make a breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach
tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to
life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.'"
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.'" So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet-a vast army.
Then he said to me: "Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.' Therefore prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.'"
John 11:25-26
"I am the Resurrection and the Life:
he that believes in Me
although he be dead, shall live,
and everyone who lives
and believes in Me shall not die forever."
Mark 12:25
"For when they shall rise again from the dead, they shall neither marry nor be married,
but shall be as the angels in heaven."
Mark 13:26-27, 31
"And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
And then He shall send His angels, and shall gather together His elect from the four winds,
from the uttermost parts of the earth to the uttermost parts of the heavens."
"Heaven and earth shall pass away but my word shall never pass away."
